Spain is one of Europe's sunniest countries and a leader in solar power. Solar is now its largest source of generation capacity.
Opportunities range from rooftop solar for businesses and homes (self-consumption) and battery storage to investment in larger solar farms.
Spain reached 50.2 GW of solar capacity in February 2026, 34% of its total power capacity. It added 8.7 GW in 2025, and solar supplied 18.4% of electricity. Grid access is the main bottleneck: of 40 GW of connection requests in 2025, only 4.5 GW were approved. That makes rooftop, storage and ready-to-build projects with permits especially valuable.
