Bakuchi (babchi, Psoralea corylifolia) is a traditional Ayurvedic plant grown in India, mainly used for its seeds, powder and oil.
Its extract bakuchiol has become a popular plant-based alternative to retinol in skincare. European 'clean beauty' brands are adopting it quickly, including Spain's cosmetics cluster around Barcelona.
The global bakuchiol market was about USD 0.14 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 0.41 billion by 2035 (11.4% a year). Skincare accounts for more than two-thirds of demand, and European buyers put strong emphasis on regulatory compliance and quality.
